Scouts Give Back
Community Service is a major tenant of the Scouting Program and can take many forms, from park clean ups to book collections. Its all about being a good Citizen in the community. The Scouts of Orland Park Scouts BSA Troop 318 have taken it to heart and have been supporting the South Suburban PADS Shelter for a number of years. Assistant Scoutmaster Claudette McDonnell brought the possible service project to the attention of the Troop and they have supported it ever since. Scouts of Troop 318 prepare and deliver dinner for the South Suburban PADS Shelter one Sunday a month. The week before the meal delivery, the interested Scouts meet on ZOOM to coordinate the menu and each chooses what item they will provide for the meal. Then on Sunday, the Scouts drop off the completed portion of the meal to a central location where it is then delivered to the shelter in Harvey, IL. This month the menu was fried chicken, pasta, mashed potatoes, baked beans, corn, apple pecan salad, rice crispy treats, brownies, and cake. They will be getting together to decide October’s meal at the end of September. It is great to know that the next generation is out there helping others less fortunate. Check out your community to see what Scouts are doing.
